MODERN MACH
SMACK DAB IN THE MIDDLE OF...
Ocean Springs, Mississippi
With more than 200 shops, galleries and restaurants, along with white sand beaches, miles of nature trails, and a vibrant arts scene, it’s no surprise this seaside town is known as the
“City of Discovery.”
American master Walter Inglis Anderson's "Little Room" served as inspiration for the "Secret Room" in the book. You can see it and his other works at The Walter Anderson Museum of Art.
On nearby Horn Island, Walter Anderson spent extended periods painting, drawing and writing. A designated wilderness zone, this barrier island is just 10 miles long and about a mile wide. You can visit by private boat and experience first-hand the same unspoiled nature that inspired the artist.
